Contemporary
Beginning Contemporary
Contemporary dance is an expressive, creative, interpretive form of dance that takes its roots from many different schools of modern dance, jazz, and ballet. With less of a focus on a specific body placement and posture, Contemporary dance is more about dynamics of movement, with unpredictable changes of direction and speed, and dance for the sake of dance, rather than telling a prescribed story. Our Beginning Contemporary classes require a willingness to dive in—if you’ve never taken a dance class before, it will feel new and challenging. But stick with it, and you’ll find the movements becoming familiar in your body, and a more ready willingness and ability to commit fully to the movement. After a time, you may find it deeply meditative and therapeutic!
