Classes & Camps for Kids

While Lines is first and foremost a studio for adults, we are pleased to extend some of our high-quality classes to younger learners.

We also offer summer camps and school vacation day camps!

Itty Bitty Ballet series for ages 3-5

  • A 6-week introduction to musicality and expressive movement for dancers ages three to five! Through imaginative guided movement exercises, students are given an avenue to develop a sense of rhythm, practice moving with different dynamics, and explore emotive expression through movement and gesture. Classes will also help the dancers gain spatial awareness and focus. Itty Bitty Ballet is designed to be developmentally appropriate for young children, with an end goal of giving kiddos a confidence-boosting love of dance!

    Please note that there is no recital for Itty Bitty Ballet.

    Youngest students should turn 3 by September 1st. Oldest students should still be 5 on December 31st, 2023. Please note that this class is not developmentally appropriate for 2-year-olds.

Primary Ballet series for ages 5.5-7

  • No prior dance experience is required for this 6-week course! This class is appropriate for students who are ready for a more structured approach to ballet than Itty Bitty. Classes emphasize rhythm, dynamics, presentation, and very basic ballet terminology and placement. Students will gain an understanding of spatial awareness, correct alignment, teamwork, and focus.

    Please note that there is no recital for Primary Ballet.

    For this level, the youngest students should turn 5 by September 1st, and the oldest students should still be 7 by December 31st, 2023.

Mixed Aerial Arts series for ages 6-8 / 9-11 / 12-16

  • A fun introduction to movement in the air! We offer three 6-week series: one for children ages 6-8, one for pre-teens (9-12), and one for teens (12-16).

    Instructor Rob Crites and Shara Crane lead students in an exploration of trapeze, silks, and aerial hoop. Movement work starts on the floor with the apparatuses at a low height, and children are invited to explore new frontiers as they feel comfortable. Safety is always top priority!

    Parents are free to leave during class time or may stay and observe class through the glass doors of our seating area.

Circus & Aerial Camps for ages 6 -8/9-12

  • Offered as single day and week-long camps!

    This camp features a rockstar line-up of professional circus/aerial instructors and performers: Rob Crites, Jenn Berry, Shara Crane, Maia Castro-Santos, and Ivan Jermyn give kids ages 6-8 and 9-12 a fun, safe, low-risk introduction to the world of aerial and circus arts!

    Classes include:

    • Physical theater
    • Feather balancing
    • Spinning plates
    • Juggling scarves
    • Low tight wire
    • Bucket stilts
    • Unicycles

    Each day, children take three classes (one aerial, one circus skills, one acrobatics/other), with a break for snack or lunch. Children are fully supervised during all camp hours.

Primary Ballet Camps for ages 5-8

  • Children ages 5-8 are invited to join instructor/ballerina Sadie MacKinnon for a morning of dance, art, and live music from visiting musicians! Sadie leads children in movement-based games and activities designed to enhance musicality, creative expression, and spatial awareness. Dancers will also learn the earliest fundamentals of ballet technique.

    Students will learn and practice a short phrase of choreography over the week that they will perform for parents/caregivers on Friday at noon.

    9-9:45 AM - Primary Ballet class

    9:45 - 10 AM - Snack/water/bathroom break

    10 - 11 AM - Craft/Art activity (pointe shoe decorating, tutu making, etc.)

    11 - 11:15 AM - Snack/water/bathroom break

    11:15 AM - 12 PM -Musical theater class/live music/choreography
