Amanda Persephone Joy
Burlesque
Dance has always been a part of Amanda’s life, and it is one of her favorite forms of expression. She found her passion for burlesque three years ago in an Intro to Burlesque class led by Vie Mazur at Lines. Signing up for the class was part of her healing journey after ending an abusive marriage. The empowerment she discovered through participation in the class did wonders for her growth, and she’s loved burlesque ever since.
Amanda has participated in many classes with Vie over the course of the three years, and performed in the Lines Performance Showcase two years in a row. She choreographed, taught, and performed in the burlesque number for the studio’s showcase last winter. She has performed twice in the Vermont Burlesque Festival in Burlington.
A clinical psychologist by trade, Amanda has also facilitated psychoeducational groups on a variety of topics. She is strongly supportive and nurturing of each individual’s holistic healing and growth, and believes dance can play an enormous role in building confidence, assertiveness, a sense of playfulness, and directly benefits overall health and wellness.
